Degree Programs

Horticulture, Crop Science, and Environmental Soil and Water Science undergraduate majors combine science based courses with hands on lab and field work.  Each major allows students to specialize their courses even further in order to meet individual interest and future career goals.  Horticulture emphases include turf, landscape maintenance and construction, ornamental horticulture, business and science.  The Crop Science major offers both agronomy and research biotechnology emphases and the Environmental Soil and Water Science major provides students with a strong background in soil science as well as emphases in water and plants.

All PSC majors require course study in biology, chemistry, math, ecology and fundamental soils followed by a wide range of choices in specific course areas such as plant science, biology, soil, crop, turf, business, water, landscapes, research and much more.  Hands on lab work is required for much of the class work allowing  students to put actual application of the lecture material to work in a field based, learning atmosphere.

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree is available in all majors.  An Associate of Applied Science and one-year certificate are additional options in the Horticulture major.  All core and emphases courses in every major require a 2.5 grade point average and several courses meet both departmental and university studies requirements.  Regularly scheduled advising will assist you with scheduling your courses to best meet all your degree requirements.

The Department of Plants, Soils, and Climate offers students the opportunity to minor in Horticulture, Crop Biotechnology, Agronomy, Soils Science, and Ornamental Horticulture.  Minor options require 16 credits of course work outside of your major degree requirements.   Remember there may be prerequisites for some of the courses required to complete a minor. Visit with the academic advisor to determine the best way to plan your minor.
